Tension Headache Relief - causes you don't know

By Graeme Teague

There are many causes of tension headaches, from stress at home or work, weather changes, muscle tension from lifting or carrying heavy objects or even sinus congestion. Tension headache relief is possible if you learn to change how your body reacts to these stresses, which you can also do at home.

For most a tension headache is low grade, a dull ache but they can also become more severe at times. The pain is commonly in your neck, moves up into your head, around your temples and at times cover your entire head. They are nothing to worry about really, in that there is no long term side effects from them. Short term they affect your day to day life and are plain annoying.

You can use many different methods fro tension headache relief too, from massage to chiropractic, acupressure or acupuncture or even use herbs or medication just to ease your pain. However, the only way to get long term relief is eliminating all the causes.

Most treatments for tension headaches target muscular tension, as this is the final process causing your head pain. But finding the reason behind the muscle tension is better for long term success. This doesn't mean you shouldn't ease the tight muscles causing your pain, but do this in conjunction with removing the cause too.

Some of the common underlying causes relate to dehydration, the ability to cope with stress and even fatigue. This doesn't mean you need to look at counseling, but you do need to learn simple ways to help reduce your stress levels.

Dehydration is also a common cause, but it is not related just to how much water you drink, but how well your body processes water. If you fail to process water well, you can still be dehydrated even if you drink liters of water every day.

Tension headaches are common; in fact they are increasing in frequency as our society increases in stress. But to cure a tension headache doesn't need to be difficult. All you need to do is identify the cause, eliminate the symptoms and then make sure you remove all the causes.

Best of all you can get tension headache relief without needing to consult with anyone but yourself. You can fix your headaches at home easily in just a few minutes if you use the right techniques.
